Inkheart:
Release Date: 1/23/2009
Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy, Adaptation
cast: Helen Mirren,Roger Allam, Brendan Fraser,Paul Bettany, Jim Broadbent, Andy Serkis, Rafi Gavron, Sienna Guillory ect.
Inkheart may be a tad Lord of the Rings-ish, but it’s still a whimsical, exciting and entertaining family flick.
Synopsis: Mortimer “Mo” Folchart and his 12-year-old daughter, Meggie, share a passion for books. What they also share is an extraordinary gift for bringing characters from books to life when they read aloud. But there is a danger: when a character is brought to life from a book, a real person disappears into its pages. On one of their trips to a secondhand book shop, Mo hears voices he hasn’t heard for years, and when he locates the book they’re coming from, it sends a shiver up his spine. It’s Inkheart, a book filled with illustrations of medieval castles and strange creatures--a book he’s been searching for since Meggie was three years old, when her mother, Resa, vanished into its mystical world. But Mo’s plan to use the book to find and rescue Resa is thwarted when Capricorn, the evil villain of Inkheart, kidnaps Meggie and, discovering she has inherited her father’s gift, demands that she bring his most powerful ally to life--the Shadow. Determined to rescue his daughter and send the fictional characters back where they belong, Mo assembles a small group of friends and family--some from the real world, some from the pages of books--and embarks on a daring and perilous journey to set things right.
Story: Based on Cornelia Funke’s best-selling children’s book, Inkheart takes its literary inspirations literally.
It revolves around a father, Mortimer “Mo” Folchart (Brendan Fraser) and his 12-year-old daughter Meggie (Eliza Hope Bennett), who share a gift -- or curse -- of being able to make characters leap out of the pages just by reading aloud. Unfortunately, whenever they do this, a real person must then be transferred into the book as a replacement. It can get complicated, especially when Mo accidentally sends his wife (Sienna Guillory) into a book called Inkheart, only to bring out its villains to wreak havoc on the real world. He spends the next nine years, trying to find another copy of the book and bring her back, while one of the book’s main characters, Dustfinger (Paul Bettany), follows Mo, trying to get back into the book. An adventure waiting to happen!

Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans
Release Date: 01/23/09
genre: Thriller, Romance, Horror, Sequel

cast:Michael Sheen ,Bill Nighy ,Rhona Mitra ,Shane Brolly ,Kevin
Grevioux, Steven MacKintosh, David Aston etc.

“Unnecessary” and “unrewarding” are two of the terms which come to mind when considering the merits -- meager such as they are -- of the third in the Underworld series.

Synopsis: Depicts the origins of the centuries-long blood feud between two powerful and immortal tribes, the aristocratic Vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans, a line of fierce werewolves.

Story:
Taking the bare bones of The Ten Commandments and Romeo and Juliet,
this pedestrian tale explains the origins of Lucian (Michael Sheen), a “Lycan” (read: lycanthrope), who served the vicious vampire king Viktor (Bill Nighy) but would eventually lead a revolt of his fellow Lycans (read: slaves) after his illicit affair with Viktor’s daughter Sonja (Rhona Mitra) was revealed. From this, the war between vampires and werewolves would be waged for generations to come, depicted in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution. Those unfamiliar with the previous films might be a little lost here, and it’s highly unlikely that Rise of the Lycans will win many new fans to the franchise.

Cast: Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, Alexa Davalos, Tomas Arana, Mark Feuerstein, Mia Wasikowska, Jodhi May etc.

Defiance is a powerful, gripping and quite remarkable true story of courage and fierce determination against overwhelming odds.

Synopsis:
The year is 1941 and the Jews of Eastern Europe are being massacred by the thousands. Managing to escape certain death, three brothers take refuge in the dense surrounding woods they have known since childhood. There they begin their desperate battle against the Nazis. At first it is all they can do to stay alive. But gradually, as whispers of their daring spreads, they begin to attract others--men and women, young and old--willing to risk everything for the sake of even a moment’s freedom. Tuvia is a reluctant leader and his decisions are challenged by his brother, Zus, who worries that Tuvia’s idealistic plans will doom them all. Asael is the youngest--caught between his brothers’ fierce rivalry. As a brutal winter descends, they work to create a community, and to keep faith alive when all humanity appeared to be lost.

Story:

Although most Holocaust-themed works present the Jews as victims, this true story shows there were small bands who did manage to fight back no matter how difficult the challenge. Starting near the beginning of World War II, the film focuses on three Jewish brothers, who lead a small but effective resistance against the surging Nazi presence in the forests of Belarussia. Eldest brother Tuvia Bielski (Daniel Craig) returns home to find most of his family murdered. His only surviving siblings are his wild, quick-tempered brother Zus (Liev Schreiber), prone to shoot first and ask questions later, and his youngest brother Asael (Jamie Bell), whose gentle nature allows to him to act as a buffer between his two older siblings. Crux of the film is the conflict between Zus’ quest for revenge at any cost and Tuvia’s more measured desire to save lives. As they round up more and more Jewish outcasts, the Bielskis form a community deep in the woods. But soon Tuvia must rise to the occasion and lead the 1,200 strong group deeper into hiding in order to survive the winter and the lurking Nazi threat.
